After weeks of stagnation, there is gradually something happening: border openings are under discussion, airlines are resuming their first flight connections. Nevertheless, experts assume that this new normality – however it may look like – will take many months to achieve. But business trips in particular are indispensable in some cases and will continue to be made in urgent cases. Concrete security measures can help to make business trips as safe as possible even in times of corona and to protect business travellers from health and other risks.

Preparation is trumps: How travellers can protect themselves

These tips should be considered when travelling in times of Corona:

  • Inform yourself about existing travel restrictions and quarantine measures. Up-to-date information is available from the Federal Foreign Office, the embassy of your home country and your travel agency or airline.
  • Medical care is insufficient in many countries. A comprehensive travel first-aid kit and up-to-date vaccinations are important – your doctor or travel health practitioner will be able to give advice.
  • Make sure you have adequate insurance coverage. In the event of a pandemic or an official travel warning, many insurance companies exclude their coverage.
  • Avoid crowds of people and highly frequented areas. These include hotel lobbies, restaurants, public transport, markets and shopping centres.
  • Minimise personal contact and keep a minimum distance of 1.5 metres to other people – this also applies to traditional forms of greeting.
  • Wash or disinfect your hands regularly and keep them away from nose and mouth. Wear suitable face masks in public places to reduce the risk of infection.

Limited travel is possible – but requires preparation

As a general rule, only business-critical travel should be conducted. Preparation becomes the key to successful and safe travel in the pandemic. The volatile situation in particular makes reliable planning difficult. In a professional training course, employees learn what is important and how existing risks can be effectively reduced.
